Friggin Democracy

How dare those elect a majority. What gives them the right?

Just because Hamas is the elected government doesn't mean the rest of the world has to treat them with the same respect.

They are a terrorist organization, first and foremost. They may do humanitarian works for palestinians, and they may have a political wing now, but just because they got elected doesn't legitimize them.

I see no reason to think the US or Europe should feel obligated to continue to GIVE MONEY to terrorists.

And that's what the real issue is about. Does the ROTW have an obligation to give money to a country, or can they deny it for any reason.

Since it's a gift, I say they can deny it. And I say we should. Palestinians can elect whomever they wish, but there are consequences for that decision, and one of those is that they lose access to our money.

It's one thing to refuse to give money to Hamas--that's reasonable, but I've come across people who say that we should now use military force to kick them out and install a more friendly "authority".

Gadflier nails it. If they choose to flip the rest of the world off by electing Hamas into legitimate power they get to. They also get to live with the rest of the world flipping them off.
